Q+A with Something Silver

U Village: Why did you decide to open your own jewelry store?
Cheri: Well, I’m way too stubborn and opinionated to be able to work for someone else! At the end of the day, I did it so I’d have the flexibility to raise my two children and because of that, I’ve been able to remain completely involved in their lives in a way that I could not have been if I’d taken a more traditional route.

U Village: With all the amazing jewelry in the world, how do you decide what is Something Silver jewelry?
Cheri: This is one of the hardest things that I do. There truly are so many amazing jewelry designers out there so it’s important to maintain our vision of what makes a great jewelry line.  First and foremost is it has to fill a niche in our store.  We try not to duplicate looks.  Second is it has to be a good value, regardless of the price.  I’m a strong believer that people, regardless of their income, appreciate when something is priced fairly. Third, the designer needs to be constantly innovating his or her line to keep it fresh.

U Village: What age did you get your ears pierced?
Cheri: I got my ears pierced when I was in the 7th grade.  I instantly felt grown up and was so excited about all of the earrings I could wear.
