U Village: Why shop local?
Karla: This is one of my favorite questions people ask me. It keeps tax money in the community which in turn improves community services, schools and more. It creates jobs and keeps our communities unique and prosperous. It reduces environmental impact because their transportation needs are usually lower and small businesses tend to be in city centers where people live. We CARE about our customers and our communities.

U Village: What is the most challenging thing about owning your own business?
Karla: I wear a lot of hats! Accounting, store design, HR, customer service, merchandising, buying  and marketing are a few things I have to do. If I don’t know how to do something I have to learn how to do it. I surround myself with good people but have a limited budget so at the end of the day sometimes I just have to make things happen.

U Village: There are now Gidigio shoes made exclusively for Sole Food. Why Gidigio?
Karla: Gidigio is hand made in Italy by small family owned factories that have been passed from generation to generation. The quality of their workmanship and leathers are extremely high. The shoes are comfortable out of the box and will be a favorite for years to come.
